Swim Meet 101

Meet Details

  • There are 3 Home and 3 Away meets (6 total).
  • The DAY OF the meet, we will send out final reminders and the heat sheet. Please BRING A COPY OF THE HEAT SHEET to the meet.
  • The away meet pool addresses are noted in the "Calendar & Signups".
  • IMPORTANT: If your swimmer cannot participate, you must sign out your swimmer AT LEAST 2 DAYS BEFORE! The coaches will assume that all swimmers are swimming unless signed out. (There’s a reason for this – the coaches are trying to build the best heat sheet possible!). Sign-outs are required for Practice meet (10 & Under only), all 6 regular meets and Finals. The sign-out form is linked here.
  • It's very helpful for swimmers to come to the meet marked with a sharpie. On the right shoulder, write name and age (great for coaches and parent volunteers to help 10 & Unders find their way). On the right or left arm, note EHLS - event, heat, lane and stroke - for each race. If you are not sure how to mark your child, please feel free to ask a coach or veteran swimmer.
    • Medley Relay Stroke Order: Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly, Free (tip to remember order: they are alphabetical!)
    • Individual Medley (IM) Stroke Order: Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Freestyle (saying to remember order: "BUTTER my BACK and my BREAST will be FREE")
  • Make sure to pack healthy snacks and LOTS of water.
  • At meets, there is NO OPEN SWIM for parents or siblings.
  • We follow the Greater Forsyth Swim League meet rules. You can view those rules here

Home Meets

  • Swimmers are expected to arrive at the pool between 4:30-4:45 pm. DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 4:30pm. Coaches & volunteers need setup time prior to the team arrival.
  • Warm-Ups will begin for the home team at 5:00 pm, for the away team at 5:15pm
  • The meet will start promptly at 5:30 pm
  • If you have volunteered to be a timer or a stroke & turn judge, there will be a brief meeting led by the Referee at 5:15 pm
  • Food and drinks will be available to purchase at our concessions stand.
  • Please escort swimmers 8 & Under to the Stingray Den for lineup before the meet begins. Our volunteers will get your swimmers where they need to be. We ask that you encourage your swimmer to stay with the parent volunteers and age group friends, as it is difficult to track down wandering children.
  • When the meet is over, we encourage everyone to help clean up as we must leave the pool and deck as we found it!
  • After home meets, we will order pizza and encourage everyone to stay for free swim time!

Away meets

  • Swimmers are expected to arrive at away meets between 4:45-5:00 pm
  • Make sure to pack healthy snacks and LOTS of water.
  • Warm-Ups will begin at 5:15 pm
  • The meet will start promptly at 5:30 pm
  • If you have volunteered to be a timer or a stroke and turn judge, there will be a brief meeting led by the Referee at 5:15 pm
  • Food and drinks will be available to purchase at the away team's concessions stand. More details TBA
  • Please escort your children to the bull pen area for lineup before the meet begins. Our bull pen volunteers will get your children where they need to be. We ask that you encourage your child to stay with their parent volunteer and age group fiends, as it is difficult to track down wandering children.
  • At the end of each away meet, we host a drop-in team dinner at a fast-food restaurant – more details TBA.

Meet Attire

  • Swimmers should wear a solid black suit to all meets. Speedo is a recommended brand, but not required. You are welcome to purchase your suit anywhere.
  • We encourage swimmers to wear goggles. It's always helpful to bring an extra pair of goggles to a swim meet as a back-up.
  • We have Waterford Stingrays swim caps for a fee. See Taylor Carruthers for a cap.
  • The team shirt has our logo and all swimmer names on the back. All swim team members will receive a shirt included with their registration. We encourage parents and siblings to purchase one to wear to meets!
  • We will also offer additional gear (ex. Hoodies, hats, etc). Taylor Carruthers is the point person for gear – contact Taylor with any questions or to order!
  • We encourage families (swimmers, moms, dads, and sibling too!) to dress in Waterford colors (navy/teal/white) and show their spirit at meets!
