WF Stingrays: Weekly Update 7 - June 18th
Good morning and Happy Father's Day!
We hope everyone has recovered from a very busy week and can celebrate with a Father's Day nap or two today! It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the season. 3 regular meets down, and 3 Home meets to go! Ribbons are ready to be picked up for the last three meets, if you have not already done so! We have enjoyed watching our swimmers grow and improve, make new friends, and create memories!
Here's a look at this week:
-Monday, June 19th – Regular AM and PM (by RSVP only) practices
-Tuesday, June 20th – AM practices and FIRST HOME MEET against Brookwood – Info to be emailed Monday, Heat sheets on Tuesday
*Reminder – The swim meet Theme is a tribute to the 1980s – Bust out your neon, wild prints and side ponytails!
-Wednesday, June 21st – Fun AM Practice and PM (by RSVP only) practices, Spirit Night @ Moe’s between 5:00pm-9:00pm
-Thursday, June 22nd - Regular AM and PM (by RSVP only) practices, SIGN-INS DUE for home meet against Shallowford
-Friday, June 23rd – CITY MEET at Bolton!! No practices for those not attending City Meet. A separate email will be sent out with information about City Meet.
*Concessions donations- last call! We still need your help and it not too late to turn in your concession donations if you have not already done so. We have quite a bit left to collect and would love for those who have not be able to contribute to please donate Gatorade bottles in lieu of soda. Please bring them to practice and write your names on them. Thank you!
*Volunteers for next 3 home meets: We are in need scorekeepers at all meets! We always have someone there to help train you and try to rotate people out to watch their children’s events. Like our buddy, Mike, told me at the Brookberry meet – it’s guaranteed shade, you get to sit, and goes pretty quickly! Be Like Mike, sign up to score keep! :-)
*Videographer Needed: Our beloved videographer, Kai, who created our end-of-season slideshows has retired and will be spending almost a month in Paris, so we are looking for someone else who would love to be able to put all of our memories together for the season! This is always a favorite of our team to watch during the end of season party! You can watch old slideshows here: https://waterford.swimtopia.com/end-of-year-slideshows
*Pictures/videos for Slideshow: Speaking of slideshow, we would love to start collecting any you have taken of your swimmers and friends to put together for the slideshow. You can email them to: [email protected].
*Singing the National Anthem: If anyone of our swimmers or Stingray parents, siblings, and friends have any interest to sing the National Anthem at our upcoming swim meets, we would love to have you! Turns out, no one on the Committee can hum a tune, so we would love for someone to graciously step in. Please send us an email ([email protected].) or catch one of us at practice if interested!
*Declaring availability for Finals: Believe it or not, we are quickly approaching FINALS on Monday, July 10th. Finals are coordinated by the Greater Forsyth Swim League for ALL teams in the league this summer. It will be hosted at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Monday, July 10th. We need ALL SWIMMERS to declare their intent - whether ABLE or NOT ABLE to attend. Just like a regular meet – you will go in and look for the title Greater Forsyth League Finals - Invite Only
Our coaches are hard at work to identify the top swimmers in EACH stroke by age group, and the top RELAY teams. No matter your swimmers' ability, we need to know their intent! This information is SO HELPFUL to the coaches as they pull together the strongest group to send to Finals. Historically, our team has placed in the TOP TIER of teams at Finals...in 2022, we were 2nd out of 20 teams!!
*Tyde hosting Start & Dive Clinic on June 29th: TYDE is hosting a Start & Dive Clinic for swimmers participating in summer league swim teams. This is for kids who are NOT YEAR-ROUND swimmers on a competitive swim team and gives them an opportunity to go off blocks in preparation for their summer league finals. **We would like for Stingray swimmers to attend ONLY if they don’t have experience using diving blocks before!
TYDE will provide coaching staff, guidance and direction for swimmers who are attending. Fulton Family YMCA is located at 385 W Hanes Mill Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Please select from the dates and times below. Sign-up here if interested: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050e4bacaf2eabfb...
*Pictures and Merch orders: Thank you to those who were able to come for team photos last week. For anyone who ordered we should be receiving the pictures back in a couple of weeks and definitely before the end of the season. Our final merchandise order was placed and we are hoping to have items back by the end of this week! There are still some items available at practice – random youth shirts, water bottles, magnets, etc. Please see a committee member if you are interested.
Let's have another great week Stingrays! See you at the pool!
