WF Stingrays - Weekly Update 5 - June 4th
Hello Stingrays!
What a fun start to the swim meet season with our Practice Meet last Thursday! It was so great to see our newer families come out and get a taste in preparation for Tuesday. We really appreciated everyone who volunteered as well! We had an amazing turnout at our first set of Stroke Clinics yesterday! Close to 50 swimmers came out to get some extra time in the pool!
Y’all tighten them swim goggles – While we try to condense as much information into one weekly email, we will start having a few more communications each week due to Swim Meet specific Information. We always want to make sure that everyone has as much important information as possible and appreciate the understanding when we may have to send a few more emails. Expect more info about the Sherwood Meet on Monday (general meet info) AND Tuesday (heat sheets)!
Upcoming dates and reminders for the week:
NOTES: This week we will be taking pictures of our swimmers 8 & under for our pup den area at swim meets. This lets our coaches and volunteers know who each child is at our meets.
*Team t-shirts and additional orders should be in early this week too! It’s a good rule of thumb to write your swimmers initials or name on the t-shirt tag. We always find shirts at practice and at swim meets and want to get them back to the right person.
*Tuesday, June 6th: First Meet away at Sherwood! Meet information coming soon! We are so excited to see our swimmers in action after all their hard work at practice!
*We are still in need of one Stroke Judge (this person has attended the training), One person to help enter scores & a Lane Parent for this meet! Please sign up if you are available to help.
*Thursday, June 8th: SIGN-INS DUE for Clemmons West Meet on Tues, June 13th.
*Friday, June 9th –NO PRACTICE, Last day of school for WSFCS. Congrats to our Coach graduates – Abby, Natalie, Nate, and Aidan!
*Saturday, June 10th – SIGN-INS DUE for Brookberry meet on Thurs, June 15th
*Monday, June 12th: Morning practices start. Evening practices will continue on certain Monday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Evening practices are by sign-up only as the pool allots 3 lanes for the team.

*Team Picture Day: Friday, June 16th @ 8:30am: Denise Lynn Photography will be coming back to take team and individual photos. Please wear your black one-piece suit. She will also take photos of siblings and friend groups after the team photo. Even if you do not plan on purchasing pictures, we would love to have all of our swimmers in the team picture. This will replace practice that day! Order forms are attached for you to print and bring on the 16th!
*TYDE-hosted Stroke Clinics, Saturday, June 17th: TYDE coaches will be coming to Waterford to host this stroke clinic! There will be two sessions again: 10 & under will be 8:00am-9:00am, 11 & Up will be 9:00am – 10:00am. RSVP to attend on our calendar page: https://waterford.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
*Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, June 17th: Along with the stroke clinics, we are hosting a pancake breakfast! Come on down and have some breakfast with us before 10am!
*City Swim Meet @ Bolton Pool, Friday, June 23rd: Please refer to information from the Friday email. There is NO PRACTICE this day as the coaches will be at City Meet. Be sure to join us for a fun day at Bolton!
*Place Ribbons Update: Our Swim League gives each team ribbons to hand out for each meet. Ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place, plus participation ribbons for younger swimmers who participated without a DQ. The team has file boxes with names and will save your swimmer(s) ribbons throughout the season. Make sure to check your file and take your ribbons home. They are a great keepsake! One change for this year is that the GFSL will only be providing ribbons for swimmers ages 12 and under due to cost. We do have a small surplus from last year, so we are asking that anyone with swimmers over age 13 who would want ribbons to please let us know!
*Volunteer Coaches: If you have a swimmer who is 13 years or older and is interested in being a volunteer coach during our 10 & under practice times, please speak to Coaches Abby and Kelly. This has been a great way for our future coaches to get their feet wet (pun intended) when it comes to future seasons!
*Representing the Stingrays: Now that we have started receiving our merchandise and caps, we want to create a unified look that we are THE STINGRAYS. Going forward, we would love to see only the Stingrays represented on the deck during practices and at meets. We know many of our swimmers are involved in year-round programs, but we are all swimming together as one team this summer! We enjoy showing that Stingray pride! If you are in need of Stingray gear – caps, stickers, etc. Please see one of the Committee members. *During clinics held by our year-round programs, it would be okay to show your support of that team at that time.
Swim Meet Themes: For our home meets, we love to have a little fun and have a theme! We’d love to have everyone dress up (parents too!) and if anyone has decorations they’d love to share for the evening, that always adds a fun element too! Our themes for this year are:
*June 20th, Home Meet vs. Brookwood: 80’s Theme – Neon, side ponies, channel your inner 80s child!
*June 27th, Home Meet versus Shallowford: Hawaiian/Tropical Theme – Break out the leis and hula skirts! “We’re having a heatwave…a tropical heat wave.”
*July 5th, Home Meet versus Willow Run: USA Theme - All things Red, White & Blue!
