Stingrays IMPORTANT -Practice Meet Info - June 1st 2023/Communications to team
Hello Stingray families -
Our practice meet is in ONE WEEK, June 1, 5:30pm-7:00pm -If you are NEW to the team or it's been a while since you participated in a meet, please register for the Practice Meet. Seasoned swimmers and families DO NOT need to participate in this meet. This is a shortened home meet that helps everyone practice - swimmers, coaches, parents, volunteers, etc. We will only have 3 events - Freestyle, Backstroke & Free Relay. The deadline to opt-in for the Practice Meet is THIS Saturday, May 27th by 8pm. If you do not declare that your swimmer is participating, they will not be placed in any events. We do need a couple more VOLUNTEERS to run this meet! Upon registering, parents please sign-up to be a timer or lane parent and "practice" the job!
You may want to take a look at the "Swim Meet 101" resources on our team website. If you are a new Stingray family, coaches and seasoned swimmers will help you - do not worry! If you are not familiar with a heat sheet (or need a refresher), there's a great "How to Read a Heat Sheet" PDF attached for your review. If you have additional questions beyond the information we provided, please ask! Heat sheets will be emailed out the day of the swim meet.
Here are some pointers for you to plan for the Practice Meet:
1.The meet will start at 5:30pm. Plan to arrive at 5pm. Warm Ups will begin at 5:15pm. Do NOT arrive before 4:55pm - our coaches and committee need time to set up.
2.We will NOT have stroke judges or a Referees assigning DQs (disqualification for incorrect stroke technique). This will take place at all regular meets, but this is just for practice. We want swimmers to feel encouraged!
3.Please PRINT a copy of the heat sheet and bring it with you on Thursday, June 1st. It’s also a good idea to bring a sharpie. Coaches and seasoned parents can show you how to mark your swimmer’s arm with their H (Heat), E (Event), L (Lane), and S (Stroke). See attached picture.
4. Bring lots of water and plenty of snacks. Concessions will NOT be open.
5.You are encouraged to bring chairs and tents to help us create as much shade as possible!
6.Black swim suits are encouraged. If you have not purchased one yet - it’s ok! Wear a one piece suit that is comfortable.
7.The pool will only be open for the meet - NO open swimming.
8.Swim caps will be distributed starting next week. It’s ok to swim without one if they have not arrived by June 1st!
9.You may want to pack some playing cards, small games and things to help pass the time between events.
10.Please notice the parking cones and park appropriately, not blocking residential driveways or stop signs.
11.We cannot start the meet until volunteers are filled - consider stepping up as a timer or lane parent. We will show you what to do!
12.Get ready to have fun!! Be sure to cheer on your neighbors and friends!
Please let us know if you have any questions. See you on the deck
